Barthday News

Darling GirlIn (late, I’m perpetually LATE) honor of the genocide of the First Nations peoples (Columbus Day, you dolts! :) ), I have a wonderful link to a wonderful book that I heard about on My New Best Friend, NPR. I’m beginning to see why people love that station so much. Before we became gypsies, I never listened to music (unless it was “children’s music”), watched news on TV (TV didn’t go on until the kids were asleep) or was home enough to turn on the radio. I am finally discovering NPR.

Cake ShotEllen had a wonderful day; thank you Grandma Elinor and Dan for the call; it must have been the wee hours where you were. I got her a pair of shoes at the thriftstore that she LOVED, 2 pairs for Little Imelda (Becky, her cousin) who, I am told, was so thrilled that she immediately took her mom to the guesthouse (where we were not) to thank us. Sissy got 4 pairs of pants (what, she’s not a size 3 anymore?) and I got Ellen a too-big skirt that I will shrink to her size with the help of thread and needle. I also got her a doll she hated (cloth, lovely doll) and one she loved. So, tally with me here; 4 pairs of pants (jean material with flower embriodery at the cuff), 3 pairs of shoes (one brand new, the other two barely worn), 2 dolls, 3-4 beany baby type things, 1 skirt with sewn-in liner and golly, could that be it? Twenty Two Dollars. I love thriftstores. I think if I were made of money I would still shop at a thriftstore. I look at prices in Target; their sale prices or clearance prices and still, cannot bring myself to spend $7 on a shirt and $12 on pants, when I know I can get 6-8 pairs of pants for the same price at a thriftstore. And with my kids, who knows. They’ll probably bust the knees even faster in a brand new, store bought pair of pants than a used thriftstore pair.

PresentsI’m thinking we’ll be here around a month or more; the family member everyone has in their thoughts has a bone scan scheduled the 17th or 20th. There are actually two appointments. We’re trying like crazy to get one this week, so we’re making appointments anywhere in a 50 mile radius. Hey, with all the RV’s in this family, we could probably get an appointment somewhere in Nevada tomorrow and drive a home to it. Thanks John and Jody for your well wishes. I really appreciate them.

  • It’s no secret. The family member getting a bone scan is me, Kitty’s (Kathy’s) father. Reason? Because I have prostate cancer.

I’d appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers over the next years.

    best, paul

hey Dad, couldn’t we just pretend you’re gay? I’m sure Mom would go along with it… :)

  • You’re right. How stupid of me. I’m actually gay not with cancer. It’s an easy mistake. It could happen to anybody ;)

    best, paul

PS> Just in case my mind is going further than its every gone before, once again, please do have kind and positive thoughts for me, and even prayers if that’s your cup of tea.
