Oh, yes, we’re STILL in California. Not that I don’t enjoy my sister’s company and the screaming littles and the dreary rain and the barfing and the snarfing and the drizzle but I sure thought we’d be across the border by now. Jamie reminded me the other day that it isn’t about the destination but I snapped back at him that there ain’t any journeying going on either; just settling deeper into the mud created by the constant rain. Did I mention the never-ending, dreary, mind-fogging, depressing rain?
I think Ellen came out of the flu today. Unfortunately, I started barfing along with Sissy today. Tonight, Sissy was much improved and barfing ain’t much to me. After the “morning sickness” I experienced with #4, barfing ain’t much. Surprisingly, we weren’t trying for four; we were so sure we were done with 3 that I had given away all the baby clothes; all the newborn stuff; all the diapers and we were planning to move to Eugene (ha! think of the rain there!). Unfortunately (so we thought at the time), we celebrated New Years Day in the worst possible way (unprotected) and I knew, even before ovulation. It started very badly; by the end of the first trimester I’d lost 45lb and was hospitalized to stop the vomiting. They finally got me on some good drugs and eventually, by 32 weeks, I’d come around to the pregnancy, accepted it and all, and started midwifery care. Ellen was actually my easiest and “best” birth (the last 3 were all homebirths) and she was almost born in the caul (sounds like something a cow has, eh?). So barf? Not something I get too freaked out about.
I am SO hoping that tomorrow we can wrap things up and plan to leave the day after. I swear, listening to the rain on the roof, if Jamie falls tomorrow, I’ll strap him to the bed in the trailer and haul him down the highway looking for the elusive sun.
Chrissy and her girls are Very Much Improved and judging by how Chrissy is today, I should be feeling on top of the world tomorrow. Chet has fallen and my mom and dad, smart enough to get flu shots that actually happened to prevent the strain currently in force, shoved a full pot of steaming chicken soup out the door of their car as they sped by. So the boys have been fed.

EUGENE! We are in Eugene right now, and are contemplating a change of residency to Oregon (from Arizona). We are fulltimers, too, and will not likely buy a residence.
Would you care to share the reasons why you decided NOT to move to Eugene?
And, yes, the rain is overwhelming after Arizona weather!!!
Thanks for any enlightenment.

Good Lord…..you guys have had more than your share of sickness within the family as of late!!!!!! The type of flu you seem to be having has not attacked our little area of SE Missouri….YET. And….sure as hell hope it doesn’t!! The 1st Lady(Marsha) and I certainly do miss reading about your travels…..we can’t expand our “wish list of places to visit” without your daily posts…..haha!! Seriously…..sure hope all of you get well quickly so that you can once again find your true selves……and head down the road.
John
Oh, you poor bugs! We came down with the same stuff just before Christmas – weird rotovirus, though, as it wasn’t a 24 hour thing. Some of the kids were vomiting for days and it took a good week for it to get through my system. Hope you’re all on the mend soon.
I do know what you mean about the morning sickness thang – had it with each pregnancy, progressively getting worse until, with Kezzie, I was on an IV at home for three months (and we actually planned her ;D). She too was our least painful birth, but I put that down to finally employing hypnobirthing over Bradley. She came so fast at the end, Eric ended up catching her as the doc didn’t make it in on time.
Grace was our New Year’s celebration baby (born Sept. 13, ten days early.)
Lots of love. At least it’s not snowing there (as it is here in Pittsburgh…sigh…)
I hope you are happily on the road again and that Jamie didn’t succumb to it. So far all we have had here is a bad cold that does not allow for sleep. There are some cranky people at my house, with me the crankiest!
