81 degrees F, 66% humidity; Michael brought these handy-dandy temperature/humidity things with him. He has one in the Westy and we have one in the trailer. Jamie, throughout the day will pop in to check the numbers, like they’d make a difference in how he feels. Me, I don’t really care to know the numbers except now, when I can post that it has cooled to 81F at 1am.
I had a million things going through my brain and five million itchies all over my body so I finally gave up and put my eyes in and did some cypherin. I’ve been worried that we couldn’t afford to bring 2 seperate autos up and down the breadth of America del Norte so I figured out the mileage and approximate cost (if you’re interested, you’re probably as sleepless as I am, so maybe the numbers will bore at least you into sleep). Del Rio (where we’ll cross from Mexico to the US) to Chama, NM will run us 902 miles and ~485USD for both vehicles. I’ve budgeted (snoring yet?) 310, but have also budgeted 600USD for camping that I’m planning we won’t use (as we’ll be boondocking all through the US). So, feeling good about that. From Chama to the mothership will run 1420 miles and to Minnesota another 600. I’ve budgeted 2 months worth of time and expenses for this leg and with the camping money allocated to gas/diesel, we should be ok there too. Snoring yet??? So, I’m feeling so much better about expenses.
Tomorrow we should leave for Tepic and while the daytime highs will be close to the same, the nighttime lows are drastically different. 3000 feet higher, it should give us some nighttime relief. And maybe tomorrow at 1am, I’ll be sleeping. Could happen…

Hey Kit - I’m glad you’ve been able to achieve some relief over the budget numbers. It would keep me awake at nite too. Big hugs to you. I hope you get some relief from the heat. Love, C

Do you still have your rash? It does not sound like the weather has gotten cooler or at least cool enough for it to go away.
How is Michael liking the Mexican life and the Fulltiming lifestyle. Whats up with Jamie? Is the weather getting to him to? Gee, sounds like the peaceful lifestyle all of us Full Timers look for where your staying. Your pictures are as always, wonderful. We are stuck in Deming New Mexico for probley a month while I have a bigger than a Grapefuit lump removed from my leg. I hate being held up when I want to travel!!

We been dealing with a short heat wave here in the East, topping out in the mid-90s with high humidity for about a week. Then on Thursday, we moved into the NC mountains, and, boy, what a difference. Low 70s, very cool nights, lots of rain (except today, when it’s finally cleared.) We’re camped next to a river, and the kids are dying to go tubing, but I’m afraid the water might be too cold, since it’s only the 3rd of June. Heck, in Maine, there’s still be snow in the mountains at this point!
I know exactly what you mean by budgets keeping you awake at night - we’re generally able to keep our camping expenses under $10/day with the Golden Access Pass, but that means, as we head into the Heartland in summer, if we want electricity for A/C, we’ll have to spend more time at Army Corps campgrounds, which tend to be more crowded. I’m thinking that upgrading to a larger generator might fit the bill as well.
We’ve survived our first week back on the road. When are heading to the Mothership again? August?

Hi Kathy,
I wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying your photos. They have always been good but recently they are looking very professional. Please tell me about the change. Did you recently study photography?
I’d also be interested in your budget. What sort of items do you budget for while full timing? Are the items you budget for now different than when you began to full time?
Please give my best to everyone.
Janet

Chrissy, I knew you’d understand.
DeeDee, I think Michael is starting to adjust, but I’m not sure how he is liking the Mexican lifestyle. I’ve been thinking about him posting from time to time. Jamie is adjusting but he really hates the humidity. He is really looking forward to going up in altitude in the next few days. Thanks for the compliments on the pictures, I get really lucky and also take a TON of pictures so at least one will come out ok. Next time get an apricot in your leg instead of a grapefruit.
MB, we’ll meet up anywhere you want to. We’re thinking August going from TX to NM; September in NM, Oct to Indiana, Nov to Minnesota and Dec back to Texas (and Mexico). The mothership is in Indiana and that’s where we’re headed for warranty work before the warranty expires (November). What is happening with you guys? Are you looking to head to NM? We’ll be there in August… Are you going to be updating “trip”?
Janet, I can’t believe you’re still reading us, let along writing. I got so horrid at correspondence and feel just awful about not responding. Believe me, you weren’t alone. I’m so sorry. Thanks about the photo comments; honestly, I just get really lucky sometimes. I put May 2006’s expenditures up; I’ll put the budget amount up too if you’re interested. The numbers are radically different as we now have to fund Michael and the Westy (an additional car).
Michelle; I could hardly believe it myself. I think of you whenever my rash is itchy and when you were a kid and had those awful heat rashes. The swimming pool sounds lovely. I hope you guys get to go there frequently.

I just sat on my deck with my husband and we calculated the cost of gas from Illinois to Yellowstone/Tetons and back. I’m so nerdy I actually *enjoyed* reading this post. Love your blog; found it eons ago via Chris (BYH). If you swing through Northern Illinois en route to MN, drop me an e-mail; we’d be happy to host you!

Toni, with your email addy name, I can GUARANTEE you we’ll stop by. And probably, if we can get it outside Chiapas (as we’re not going this year) bring organic Chiapas coffee!

Oh dude. If you bring organic coffee, you can take our bedroom and we’ll take the guest room, ha! Just drop me a line when you’re close to IL!

I’m not exactly sure our route that the moment, other than we have a “kickoff” event on June 30th in Iowa City. After that, I imagine we’ll begin to head west, but we were just talking about helping with GOTV for a friend who’s running outside of Houston. So we too would probably be in NM (early caucus state) in September, then back to Texas for October. I figure we can definitely figure a way to cross paths on your way to Indiana.
We’re currently in the mountains of Georgia. I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep up with TtW (I don’t even know if I still own the domain name ;-D) but I will be posting trip details on DG08 and maybe Wampum from time to time. At this point, you’re the only non-poli I read these days. My link to reality ;-).
