Brushes with fame here in Veracruz. Right now we’re camped next to Eric, Sarah and Bruce of Van on the Run fame and a couple days ago, met up with John and Anita of Viva Veracruz. The campground here in Catemaco is, if possible, almost as tranquil as the one at El Carrizal. The crickets chirp at night and there are the odd dog or fifty, but for Mexico, this is camping at its finest. We’re within walking distance to downtown, the malecon, a wonderful fruiteria, a magnificent carniceria and two tortillerias. I have a feeling one might not be machine made. No supers in Catemaco but after seeing the brown water of the lake, I’m not sure we’ll be eating a lot of the fish there either. We’ve been to very many places in Mexico and felt very much at home, but this is the one place that I could absolutely see us living. I really thought it would be the Xalapa area, but this is it. Just, no coffee.
But I’m sure we just haven’t found it yet as there are volcanoes all around us.
Jesse and I are having the hardest time of our lives lately and I’m having a very difficult time being able to write, so I think I’ll just end it here. Tomorrow we head for Villahermosa and will regret not spending what may be left of winter here. Spring must already be here; it was 91F today at the campground but by evening it has cooled to the 80’s. It is so lovely here; tranquil and peaceful and absolutely gorgeous and we haven’t even seen the colonial Tuxla towns.
I totally forgot to add that the children absolutely ADORED Eric, loved Sarah and fell deeply for Bruce. The dog. :) Eric taught Pike how to do flips off the divingboard here at the campground and let the girls give Bruce a bath. What a guy! It was so neat to run into “kids” instead of retirees. Not that there is anything wrong with a retiree…

Wow, I loved looking at the websites of your new friends. Such interesting stories and pics. Loved hearing about John’s comments on meeting you and the family. Again the pics of the kids swimming make us look sideways, we just got a couple of feet of snow and Zane can’t seem to remember having the opportunity to swim. Again he comments, “but the lakes are frozen!”

I am there with Cory as well. It is up and down, but the ups are becoming more frequent.
