88.7 kilos. 164 cms. This is what I weigh. There is a machine at Soriana, that for 3 pesos will tell you your BMI, blood pressure, height, weight and something else that I didn’t get. Now, I’m finding this just a little bit hard to believe as in Minnesota I weighed myself on my sister’s scale and it was 195 lbs. So I’ve either added a TONNE of muscle or I started much higher than 195 or the Soriana scale is not so good.
10km and 20 minutes. The distance and amount of time it took to get from the carretera (highway; MX307) to the LP gas plant. Jamie has been very worried that we’re going to run out of propane and sitting in one spot here in PaaMul, we haven’t driven by the typical LP gaz stations that we see everywhere along the carretera while travelling. So today, one of my errands was to fill the 15 litre tanque. I drove 20 minutes and only 10km down a very rough road, through two gate things, where the guard had to raise the gate, past the tourist jungle adventure, past the JAIL (jail in the middle of the jungle must be hellish) straight into the heart of the jungle to the Z Gaz place. Two Z Gaz trucks followed me in and when we all arrived, people from 4 parked cars JUMPED out of their cars and RAN to one of the trucks. They brought their tanques with them and it looked like a good idea to me, so I brought mine also. A guy standing in the back of the truck would scrutinize the tanques and yell a number; you were supposed to hand over that amount of pesos. They didn’t measure how much they put into your tanque; he came up with an amount and it looked like we all should be Very Happy to pay it. The truck with the tanques then dissapeared into the bowels of the plant and we waited. They were filling tanques for customers who exchanged tanques and had tanques brought to them so we waited a while.
104 degrees F. 67% humidity. The temperature and humidity in the sun after our walk this morning. It was 97 in the shade. It didn’t get any cooler until a few hours after sundown.
146 beats per minute. When Jamie and I walk we wear heart monitors. I’m not sure if it was my funny tummy or the heat, but while I’m normally around 113 on the way out and 120 (at the most) on the way back, today I was trying HARD to keep my heartbeat BELOW 140. It was a VERY HOT morning and I think the heat really roached me. The funny thing was that I was feeling pretty good, though quite tired, most of the walk. I made sure to hydrate myself with something other than water, though, as the water we drink in Mexico is “dead” – without any minerals, but also without bacteria.
When you’re losing a lot of perspiration, however, you need to replenish the electrolytes so we’re dipping into Jamie’s Cytomax he brought down for cycing.
20 minutes in the HOT afternoon sun with no shade in sight. The time I waited for a doctor’s office to open so I could get a receta (prescription) for Jamie’s meds. It turned out, when I went back after going to a different doctor, that the office never opened.
100 pesos. The amount of money the second doctor wanted to charge me for one of 3 recetas I’d need for Jamie’s meds. I’d end up paying 300 pesos for the 3 recetas so after trying two different doctors and finding all the waiting rooms full, I put it off for another day.
260USD. The amount of money I could spend on a complete “female” exam; blood work, gyn exam, breast ultrasound, pelvic ultrasound and mammogram in Playa del Carmen. I can pay 40USD for just the mammogram in Mazatlan so I think I’ll wait until then.

Remember I said that our scale is off on the under side, but it isn’t off by much I think you would add 5lbs to what the thing says. Now I don’t know the metric system, what do you weigh now? From the picks it looks like you’ve lost quite a bit of weight. Congrats!!! We had two inches of snow today! And we are supposed to get a bit more on Friday! Luckily we are warming up over the weekend and all the snow shoud melt. The kids woke up this morning to all the white and they all sighed with dissapointment. We are still sporting our tans from San Felipe, so we are trying to just remember those warm days we had there. The lake house got 54″ of snow last week! If we hadn’t gone to San Felipe we would of been there, and probably still with that much snow – so I guess that is another good thing. Those temps you are in are way too high for me, I would be miserable! Glad that it works for you all. Looking forward to more pics, the kids look so happy and relaxed. Lots of love!
Yikes! We’re in California and it’s cold, froggy, windy, and the RV heater is running. We were told to disconnect water at night as it freezes. How DO these people put up with this weather?
love, papa
Double yikes!!! It snowed this morning. Kathleen almost left me.
love, papa
Dr. Paul – If it snows again tell Mom we are warming up here in Minny. It is 58 today! And all the snow has melted – well actually there are a few piles here and there – but none in our yard! Next week we should be in the high 60’s! Of course over at the lake house it snowed some 54″ last week!
