We may be so far out of American pop culture that we could take lessons from the Russians, but even as isolated as we’ve allowed us to become, we know that this summer will be full of much anticiapted releases. The boys love the Spiderman series, even if it is absolutely AWFUL, we’ll find a way to enjoy the next Harry Potter installment (and the BOOK! BOOK SEVEN this summer!). Recently, we’ve caught onto the “Pirates” movies, watching the first movie somewhere before Mexico and LOVING it, and here in PaaMul found the second movie and borrowed it. The entire family has watched it two nights in a row. So, Zaney, we have realized that you have most Excellent taste!
We are becoming such movie buffs that we recognized Hans Zimmer’s credit in the last Pirate movie. He has done so many of the soundtracks for so many of the movies we love. DVD’s have really allowed us to get behind the scenes; it is so fascinating to see the enormity of what is required to produce a movie.
Is it possible for a grownup to have a crush on a MOVIE CHARACTER? Not so much the actor, but just about each and every role he plays? Generally, I like my men like I like my coffee. Hot and black. But now I have my first crush on a white boy. I absolutely ADORED the guy (senior moment erased his name from my brain, ah YES! Johnny Depp) in “Willy Wonka”, which we bought somewhere in the US this summer. Jamie hated the character, but after seeing both versions of the movie and reading the book, I absolutely adored his version of Willy Wonka. Those purple gloves! The hair! His character had such incredible depth… After two doses of Captain Jack Sparrow, I’m in love and eagerly awaiting the next installment. Something about a man with a floppy wrist, unsteady gait and black eyeliner. Sigh. Almost scary what that must say about me. ![]()

We love the Pirates movies too. The third one comes out in May I think, and the local drive-in will be playing it, so the kids are anxious to go see it.
Cody (9) is reading the Harry Potter books now. He finished the first one in about a week, he loved it so much. The boys are ready for #7!!
Another good movie that came out yesterday I believe, is “Night at the Museum”. Hilarious, wonderful and all that stuff. The kids will love it.

LOL! Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka gave me the heebie jeebies. I love him as a pirate though. (and my all-time favorite Depp movie is Benny & Joon)
Now, we watched ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ the other evening (we *heart* Netflix) and I think I’ve fallen for Orlando Bloom. He didn’t really do much for me as a golden-haired Elf, but a smoldering Knight? yowzah.
We’ll be shelling out the bucks to see the next Harry Potter movie as well as buying the next book.
Who says grown women can’t be as silly and giddy about actors as a teen-aged girl?

You know you can buy an adult version of the Captain Jack Sparrow costume? Zane wanted me to get one for Slade - but it sounds like you might want one for Jamie! It comes with an awesome dread-locked wig and hat - you’d have to get the eyeliner on your own!

Actually, Depp really isn’t a “white boy”, as he’s Cherokee (enrolled, I think, or at least his maternal grandfather was.)
My kids are such PotC fans that they all got pirate gear for Christmas and had to find their presents via a treasure hunt. We still watch one of the movies at least once a week.
I don’t know if I’ll be able to read the last Potter book, if the rumors of Harry’s demise are true ;-(.
