We’re jumping in with both feet (and I really hope they’re not tied to a canon). We’ve figured out our exit plan and are prepared to loose all we put into the venture. Might be a most expensive lesson in life but we hope to at least break even. We’re going to build a palapa in PaaMul to live in while we renovate in Merida. We just can’t resist the idea of rennovating with 3000 years of history.
It is said that some of the colonials are built with blocks from pyramids…
We’ve been considering this for a couple years and this year, between the kids DYING to stop, for God’s sake, just STOP the insanity, and me wanting to stay in Mexico, and both Jamie and I dying for a historical rennovation (check back in a year and see if we’re still married) we decided that this might be the opportune moment. We’ve picked our plot here in gringolandia, PaaMul, plotted out our palapa and are waiting for approval (we’re hoping to do something different than that which has been done before) on our design from the land owner. I suppose I’ll have to add a new category or two. I’m still not absolutely CERTAIN that this will happen; we’ve been considering it for so long only to drop the idea and ping pong back and forth that I’m not yet used to this being something we’ll DO instead of THINKING about doing.

I can totally understand your decision.
You know how I - (we, I think) - loved PaaMul.
Which row are you picking? The third row, farther back - or what?
PLEASE take pictures of the site, construction, etc.
Also, do a few more posts (or emails) on plans for Merida. I wish we had dropped by there to see the town.
Perhaps we’ll get back down there late 2007 or early 2008 ….
Good luck, success and HAVE FUN in this new phase!
love,
TaTa

Wowza. How exciting. Yes, please post pics of what you are looking at, and even things that look like what you want to end up with! We have a book (from Christmas!) that I’be been holding off on sending because it is heavy! Should I mail it to your mailing address, or wait until we see you again - which could be a while? It is a book on horses for the girls. It is really beautiful pics of horses in the wild with poetry. “Horses of the Sun” by Robert Vavra.
We love the pics of Ellen - but we want to see EVERYONE!

Wow! How cool! We’ll see you in August then? Have you bought a house in Merida? The one in the link you sent? So many questions… I think our house in Merida closed last Wed but I’m not sure. Mimi and I have these moments when we both look at each other and yell “argggggggggg” in unison, it helps really, relieves the stress.

I realize I have never been to Mexico- born and raised in CA, duh… but I have always wanted to live there. I am so jealous!! I’ll keep following the progress and living vicariously through you and yours and perhaps someday ask your advice about where to move to.
Meanwhile, I’ll randomly search real estate in Mexico…

Oh! I love it! What a great adventure you will have!
Life is just too short to not do this kind of stuff.
Can’t wait to see the photos of the palapa rising and house renovations!
