Insanity makes for a poor seller

So, we’d heard horror stories about the sellers of the palapa pictured below.  We’d heard that they’d divorced and one would offer to sell the palapa and the other would refuse once all the details had been hammered out.  We’d heard the couple referred to as “Dumb and Dumber” but no-one seemed to know their names.

We negotiated.  We had a contract.  We found out that they had neglected to pay rent for 18 months and we’d be responsible for it.  We found they had debts here in the park (mainly with the palapero we planned to use).  Both parties signed with signatures notarized by a Canadian bank.  We thought we’d purchased a palapa.  And then they stopped responding to emails.  We decided not to send money as they stopped responding.   We have no idea what is going on.  They will loose their palapa in very short order due to lack of rental (land) payment.  So, their mindset completely escapes us.

We spent yesterday moping about, Jamie depressed and confused and I was scrambling to figure out backup plans (should we build?  should we leave?) picking out sites to build on, figuring out whether or not they had owners already; I was alternately paralyzed with indecision and frantic with activity.  Finally I left the family at the pool and ran into town for diesel and groceries.  When I came home, Jamie had news.  We had an email.  Not from “D&D”, not from any of the other options, but from a NORMAL, SANE couple.  They had originally declined our offer as too low but now they’re having second thoughts.  And are offering it to us at our price.  So, we’re up on top of the roller coaster again.  It might be worth it just to deal with sane people.

Wowza. It sounds like drinking some cammomile might do you some good! Iced during the day and hot at night to keep you all warm! Tomorrow starts our landscaping in the back yard. We can’t believe that very soon when we look out we will see green, and colors from whatever flowers end up in the plan — instead of all the dirt and construction debris.
