Grounded

day 34 009 I wrote a post the other day and since Hughes is having some weird DNS problems (or maybe my router simply hiccuped, as it sometimes does) I lost it. And even though Word Press has a feature that saves your post for you, as you’re typing, I’m not exactly sure what happened to mine. Maybe I titled it too late so it didn’t save it as anything. Who knows. Once I loose a post I’m LOATHE to re-create it so I simply didn’t. And now you’ll never know the true extent of my brilliance. Your loss. Ok, now WP just saved what I’ve posted thus far but I have no idea WHERE. EEEP! My brilliance still might be out there somewhere. Continue reading Grounded

There is no heat in Ohio

sickiegb 057 A quickie while I moderate comments, fix the layout theme and then update; Mom I believe was released from the hospital yesterday today but is still on oxygen. A full recovery is expected but she does have permanent lung damage (I believe). It was a gift to visit her and my siblings. Maybe next time we’ll do it without the hospital. I’m sick as a dog but finally feeling better after sleeping for about 300 hours.

It has come to my attention that certain words are NOT, contrary to my belief, international words. At the Houston airport, between flights, I purchased a sandwich. I’ve become so accustomed to spicy food that while I eschewed any idea of Continue reading There is no heat in Ohio

Mexican madness in Merida

As I type, I’m sitting at the gate waiting for my flight to be called. Send your spare good thoughts to Jamie and the kids; I’m headed to Ohio for a few days with Tata. More if I can.

Update on 25 June:

merida 022 When my sister emailed me Monday night with the news about my Mom, I had an immediate urge to fly to Ohio and see her. This feeling stayed with me during the entire time we were emailing and when my Aunt Barbara (a nurse and my Mom’s sister) decided to fly to Ohio, I was decided. Unfortunately, here in Mexico, it is a bit more difficult to jump on a flight, especially when you don’t have a passport. A passport has never been a requirement for us to cross the border in our van; travel by land is not regulated like air travel. We never anticipated a need to fly so we never got passports. Fortunately, here in Mexico, it is incredibly easy to get passports. I emailed the consulate in Merida and then borrowed our Canadian neighbor’s magical phone; it works in Canada, the US and Mexico Continue reading Mexican madness in Merida

good thoughts plea

My mom is in the hospital with multiple blood clots and expected to be there a few days.  If you can keep her in your thoughts, and also my poor Dad, who must be bumping around the RV, lost without his constant companion.

On the other hand, my sister and I think this may . . . → Read More: good thoughts plea

Why didn’t anyone warn us?

Oh My Goodness.  I never thought I’d need to censor PHC; this weekend is a doozy.  Especially with young kids (and two preteen boys).  On the other hand, if they ever had a question about reproduction, it has now been answered.

Happy Father’s Day

Yes, Mexico and the US celebrate it on the same day (this year)!

I came across an amazing letter from father to daughter last night; heartachingly beautiful doesn’t even begin to capture the depth and impact of his words. He sows magic when he speaks and there are honestly no metaphors to describe his . . . → Read More: Happy Father’s Day

A thrill a day!

I hope your day yesterday was much more interesting than mine.  After spending the night tossing and turning, I managed to get up at 7:15 and head over to the pool, where I waited for the owner to pass by on his way to work.  I had hoped to talk to him about the . . . → Read More: A thrill a day!

The Caribbean is a paradise

If you don’t live in Peyton Place where some of your neighbors are hell-bent on making your life a living nightmare.

When your immediate neighbors are such complete and total sweethearts that you just want to bask in their intelligence and soothing presence.

If you’re not interested in routine, stability and expectations. If . . . → Read More: The Caribbean is a paradise

Making a difference

Fascinating discussion on Marketplace about Microlenders.  Making a visible difference in the lives of others.  http://www.kiva.org/

It’s Saturday, the band is playing, honey could we ask for more?

day 15 010 When you comission work without an architect or drawing, even if it is a tiny little thing you’re doing, some parts can get lost.

Yesterday, I meandered over to the palapa and all seemed under control; Don Manuel was directing people here and there and positioning supports for the roof. I tried not to get in the way. I showed him the window we’d purchased for the bathroom and I hope it passed muster; I keep finding under the kitchen counters. Later in the day, after he’d left, I happened by again and asked the head worker when they were planning to roof the rest of the bodgea.
