I’m so cool I’m smokin’

I AM FREAKED OUT!  :)

We are headed to Cancun in about 15 minutes.  We’re going to the Costco parking lot and then we’ll drop the van, ask a taxista to take us to Unidad Morelos and we’ll check out the construction zone that was Commercial Mexicana.  We may stay at either place.  I have a bad cable on the internet so if it is raining we most likely will not be online.  I’m sure we’ll be fine but I’m freaking freaking out.  Well, only when I let myself.  Bands are coming overhead and I DEFINITELY prefer earthquakes!

Don’t freak out !!!!
We need you!!! and don’t want to visit you in the Mexican looney bin when we get down there! Chad thinks you’d be calmer if we were wih you guys so now I really wish we were there.
The storm looks like its going futher south so you really should be ok in Cancun. I think you have a good idea of where to stay
Just pull the trailer on the side where the wind will be blocked by the building Im sure you thought of that.

We’re praying for your safe travels!!

All our love and best wishes.

TaTa & PaPa

thank you thank you thank you for posting. i’m glued to the laptop and the weather channel. drive safe and breath a full breath. shallow breathing comes panic and takes away your oxygen. looking forward to your story of your safe escape.

I have enjoyed your web site and photos (Ellen is so photogenic!). We’re praying for you and everyone in Paamul. Be safe….

Listen to your sister! that girl knows about breathing. I’m waiting for the next NOAA pic - should be up now. we love you - take pics & stay safe - we love you! C

Does anyone know what the “bands” are that kitty is referring to? I assume they aren’t things like, say, Jefferson Airplane, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, etc…

didn’t catch the band. but here is what i found on google. she better be wrong about having those overhead.

hurricane band—(Also called spiral band, hurricane radar band.) A hurricane radar band of circular or spiral shape associated with a tropical cyclone (hurricane or typhoon).
Made evident by radar observations, hurricane bands typically curve cyclonically inward toward the center of the storm. The bands may be classified as primary if they merge into the eyewall encircling the eye of the storm, or secondary if they are disconnected from the eyewall. Hurricane bands generally move slowly around the center of the storm in the direction of the hurricane circulation. See banded structure.

yikes, she better be really wrong.

by “Unidad Morales” do you think she means http://www.cancunmx.com/state_dept_doctors_list.htm

GO NORTH!N!N!N!N!

UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE

We just got this from Kitty:

“We´re at Costco and I´m in their business center. They say their parking lot flooded last time )Wilma) but I don´t expect that to happen this time. at any rate all the roads are closed so here we stay. we´ll relocate to further around the other side of the store later but for now we´çre good. thanks for all the well wishes!”

“i tried to post on hopalog but i´m not permitted! if i put up our dish tonight i´ll update, for now, please post this comment on the blog. thanks i´m sure we´ll be fine!”

also, “we are planning to spend the night in the trailer i got a very protected spot. if dean heads north or the kids get too scared we will go to a hotel. later gater. love you!”

Many thanks Christina for keeping us posted as you receive the updates, much appreciated. We are all wishing Kathy, Jamie and kids the very best during this worrisome time.

Jamie, Kitty, Jess, Pike, Carolyn and Ellen you guys have sooooo many people that love you and we are all sending good thoughts and love. You’ll be safe! I’m like your sister glued to the laptop and the weather channel. Good it’s my day off! Love, buena suerte!!! Mariluz

Thank you Kitty and Christina…I have been anxiously refreshing my browser hourly. You guys will be fine. Just stay snug, and don’t let the kiddos go outside, even if Dean passes way south of you. You might get the “high side” wetness and the wind with a storm that size.

Kathy, I’m so glad you are up there. You’ll be fine there not only because it is so far north but also because it is a big city, I think that is good.

Hugs to all of you,

Jonna

i’m thinking of some good stories of folks you’ll meet this evening and the days to come. are the kids going to make you buy them those gross hot dogs from costco?

thinking of you as we go to bed. zane says to read a book, seby says cuddle. wishing you all an uneventful, safe and warm night.

I hope you are all safe, if there is anybody that can weather this storm it is you, if there is anything that I can do to help please feel free to ask, Robert

From the weather channel online this morning:

“The resorts of Cancun and Cozumel will not feel the full brunt of Hurricane Dean but waves on the order of 18 to 24 feet are expected to crash along the shores resulting in severe beach erosion. Squalls of tropical storm-force winds and heavy rains will rotate in across the resorts early this morning, then improve slowly later this afternoon.”

Hey folks - as of 6:30am PST, I don’t have an email from Kitty. I’ll post if anything comes through. Take care, C

Hi again - I’ve been watching http://hurricanecancun.com/ for status of weather in Cancun. C

Aloha all! We’re all following here, sending luck and waiting to hear from you.

Hi there, Where are Jeannie, Gary and Trish, Jim and Barry? Post when you can regarding damage in Paamul…

And everything is ok !!
I’m trying not to worry but its not working

Hi Kat,

I just finished reading someones blog in Playa and they said it was really not bad at all and they had been to paa mul and it looked pretty good too, hope we hear from you soon.

señor Chad

chrissy must be out and about, so i’ll post the following from kitty/kathy:

we spent a very windy night at Mega next to some semis after Costco kicked us out. we´re still not able to leave ‘ they lifted the orange alert to a yellow alert but i don´t know when traffic is allowed on the roads. at any rate, the gusts are still pretty strong and i´m not sure it is safe for our trailer to leave. we will hang out where we are until the winds die down enough for us to return to paamul ‘ i think this afternoon. much love. posting from costco.

one more message:

i just read the comments in the blog ‘ please say thank you so much to everyone and leave a message on the blog for ian and deb ‘ tell them that we´ll take care of cleaning their palapa and don´t rush down. looks like no damage. i can´t put the internet dish up because the gusts are too strong. i think we´ll head down to paamul this afternoon. much love to everyone!

glad to read the update here. thinking of you ….

Please let me know how the palapas on the South end beach front fared. I heard Pedro stayed.. Sharon Lewis

Glad to hear you made it safely. I thought of you and your family last night as the wind came tearing in off the ocean. It was so loud, like a freight train. We had 20 foot waves in front of the house. No damage on the island. I bet it was awful in the trailer. I don’t know how you and the kids do it. Best of luck to you!
