Avila Camacho and helping the Costa Maya
Filed under Mexico, hurricane by Mamahops
Today we are headed to a small pueblo to distribute dispensas. Last time we were in Majahual we met up with Noe Gonzales, from Manuel Avila Camacho, a 300 family pueblo directly in the path of Dean. After Dean hammered Majahual, he headed inland and hammered this town along with so very many others. Luckilly, this town has Noe employed by the owner of the hotel now used in Majahual for storing clothing and dispensas waiting to be delivered. Noe never came right out and asked us, but I couldn’t help but offer to take a load of dispensas to his pueblo. He reports that two other Mayan pueblos have received aid, but not his. Three weeks after the hurricane. The day he helped us, he took 20 dispensas with him and today we hope to augment that by 40 more. Then we’re out of money.
Gone. None. Zippo. I just found 1000 pesos that I didn’t know I had, so I’m going to kick start another fund raising drive with it, I have contacted Gary at Loco Gringo to see if we can’t help dispense dispensas (as they seem to need dispensers) but if you can help, and send 50 pesos, please remember what it can buy. I’ll try to put together a new picture of 50 pesos worth of food but for now, your job it simply to donate!
No donation is too small. I update all income and outgo on this page but if you’d like to remain anonymous, please let me know.
If you’d like to give to the people of Majahual, we pay our own gas, travel expenses, Paypal fees, food, etc. and any and all monies will go directly to purchasing food and dry goods for donating directly to those in need. Kathy,
Sorry for all the confusion with the money John and I tried to send. I think I have it all straightened out now and have sent a paypal payment to dulce@support.net.
Janet; please don’t worry a bit about it. I tried to email you but it kept bouncing. THank you so much in advance!
Kathy..wish we were there to help but plan on making it down in Dec. Is there anything we can bring that is unavailable there? Have made a donation this morning to help. Bless you.
Sent some money via pay pal. Let me know if there are any problems.
Thanks, Judy
Kathy your pictures are just awesome. I am always amazed at how neatly dressed “everyone” is. Thankyou to your whole family for doing this.
Thanks for visiting my blog! I’m pleased you liked the post. I was going to use one of your great photos but noticed the copyright. Could I have your permission to use one on that blog post? Your photos are so expressive.
Either way, thanks for your efforts.
we just sent you a donation via paypal. have you heard of kiva.org? they are a pretty cool site that is in need of businesses that need loans, you might want to check it out and see if there are some folks who could use it. there are no businesses in mexico on the site, but there should be! we just did a loan. the idea is that you “loan” money, are re-paid and then loan again ideally.

@Jody; thank you so much for the love and the post! You are an amazing person!
@Michelle; THANK YOU!!! I’ve heard of that organization before; I’ll see what I can find out about MExico with it.
@Judy; permission granted. Thank you so much for asking!
@Joan; Isn’t it amazing? I think the very poorest have run out of laundry detergent as the clothing yesterday was much dirtier than we’d seen previously. Thank you so much for the compliment on my photos. It is a priveledge to be able to take them of such lovely people.
@Judy; thank you thank you thank you!
@Coral; Pretty much everything except organic peanut butter and floss on a stick is available here (but we’ve seen both much closer to DF).
Bring down whatever you’d like; anything and everything is much appreciated and thank you, so very very much for your lovely donation!
@Janet; thank you SO MUCH!!!
