It’s a good thing we’re on Mexican time because I don’t think we could go any slower. Yesterday Jamie and I installed a light. We now have luz in the comedor. It is a pretty light; it is one I picked out many months ago as being “perfect” for the comedor but Jamie wasn’t convinced. Fortunately, he was sick recently and I took the opportunity to not only pick up the light I’ve been wanting but a light for the recamera also. The day before yesterday I figured out where I wanted the wiring to go and hung the light. Yesterday we wired her in, tied the wiring on the posts of the palapa and wired in a switch. First we wired it in wrong and fought over who would test. One person had to fight off the snakes to get to the main circuit breaker and the other would pop the switch. I fought the snakes and Jamie donned rubber and hit the switch. Unfortunately, we didn’t consult Ms. Google beforehand and popped the house circuit breaker a couple times before figuring out we’d made a wiring error. I then proposed a change; Jamie made it and then reasoned it out in his head. I know NOTHING about electricity so it was probably a good thing he reasoned it out after I cowboy’d it in. I then fought off snakes again and he bravely manned the switch and it all worked! And now we have light! And it only took an entire day.
Today Jamie uninstalled the water heater (which has never worked, but up til now we haven’t had a need for hot water) and headed to town to get a new one. We decided to stick with a tank (instead of opting for on-demand) as we’ll probably end up replacing the unit in a couple years anyway (due to corrosion). He spent the entire day getting the heater. I replaced the kitchen sink faucet (yay me!) and bravely fought off spiders and goop I don’t even want to speculate on, replaced the part that is IN the bottom of the sink, replaced the piping going down to the P trap and ran into a sizing snag connecting the P trap to the rest of the plumbing. Not to worry, the ferreterias and plomerias will be open on Monday and for now we’ll just use one side of the sink. The new faucet sure looks sweet and now BOTH handles work (before we could just use the hot side, which was immaterial as we don’t have hot anyway).
There is a palapa being built almost directly across from us and each evening we sit on our stoop and watch the maestros at their work. Who needs TV when we’re so easily amused and entertained by the palaperos? Tomorrow Jamie will install the hot water heater and if all goes well, we’ll have HOT water in the palapa for the first time ever! He also came home with oodles of Xmas lights so some pictures will be in the making also. The days they come, they hang out and they go and we’re so f’ing lucky to enjoy them like this.

Wow! The lights in the palapa make it really look pretty, Kitty & Jamie.
Good job!

Ah but at least you can see the fruits of your labor. That was one of the things about jobs NOB, there never seemed to be an end where you could step back and say, “Good Job.” The lights look good.
It looks so purty!!
Yes, you guys are so very lucky! You deserve it!
Wow! That is just beautiful. I can’t wait to see it in person. Love, C

SNAKES????
What the heck are you talking about???? Real snakes? Holy Moly!
you are so f’ing lucky! I was especially excited when you said you’d be replacing the tank in ac ouple years…that means you’re keeping it awhile? I thought you were selling it next year. Now we have more time to get our asses down there! We’re in TX now, trying to escape the CO cold and it f’ing followed us!!!
Please post!!!
PLEASE, tell us about the snakes and spiders.
What kind and are you living with these all the time? UCK and scary!
The lights look great, but the snake/spider part really took the spot light in the post.
Papa – It’s all well and good to bug Kit to post, but must I remind you that YOUR last posting was Dec 7 (one day BEFORE her last posting). Just sayin’. Love, DUII
Well, Christina, that’s pretty high and mighty from someone who’s just VERY, VERY, VERY recently started her OWN blog about her family and HER children (OUR grandchildren) AFTER breaking her dear dear FATHER’S heart for so MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY years of NOT BLOGGING.
