Food babbles in their bubble

I paid $11.32 for a medium sized jar of peanut butter today.  The last time we were in the US, in November of last year, we stocked up on organic peanut butter as we were hitting the last of the jars we’d purchased the last time we were in Texas (December 2006).  We had . . . → Read More: Food babbles in their bubble

Grounded

I think it has to do with my childhood (what doesn’t?) and the fact that I cried, incessantly, for months without cessation. My mother would rock me. My father would jostle me. And when they were dead tired and wanting to strangle me, they would put me in a car and drive me around. And I would sleep.

A couple nights ago Pike joined Jesse, Ellen and I in the trailer again. Jesse has missed his brother and Pike has missed the cave that is the boys’ bedroom. In his absence, Jesse covered the windows with fleece blankets that keep the place nice and dark. He also removed the A/C cover so they have a HEALTHY blast of A/C when it is on. As I went to sleep last night, the trailer was gently rocking with the movements of boys moving about, hitting the fridge, climbing the bunks, being boys. And it was so HOME for me. Such a grounding. It explains why I love plane turbulence, why I am so comforted by rocking trains, why driving the backroads (and not the interstate) keep me sane. That low rumble, the constant movement, it is home to me. Continue reading Grounded

It’s that time of the month when the world is about to end. Again.

You’d think I’d figure this out, or even chart it, but I don’t. And I should, because then it wouldn’t surprise me. Maybe next month. Procrastinate much?

The kids eat nothing but junk. I’m eventually going to have to get a new computer but probably not because I’ll never pass this course because I’ll never get out of Session 3 because I just don’t have what it takes. And I never see the sun anymore and we never exercise and I’ve gained about 110 kilos or whatever and my ass is dragging down to my ankles. And I am forgetting Spanish. Tioga George, KIDNAPPED

There are certain blogs I started following when we started fulltiming. My mom and Dad’s and Tioga George’s. I always wanted to travel the way both of them did; seeking out the history and boondocking in out of the way spots. Jamie was always very concerned about boondocking, but eventually allowed specific spots. George is the king of boondocking and updates his blog several times a day so you can never get bored. George is in our neck of the woods now and yesterday spent the afternoon at our palapa after which we headed to Jonna and Mimi’s for dinner. I think George might have been a little overwhelmed with all the kids and commotion (we generally have the 2 neighbor boys over during the day) but he and Sissy really connected. She came down at one point and asked me, “what’s his name again?” and when I told her she said, “I really like him”. Continue reading Tioga George, KIDNAPPED

OSHA beware

I hope you all enjoyed the post I made in my head this afternoon while we were going errands in town; wasn’t it witty and funny? I know *I* laughed til I cried.

Wednesdays are our going to market days as those are the days that fruits and veggies are marked down, pretty much all over the country. If you live in Mexico and your super doesn’t do this on Wednesday, I’d love to here which one and where. On our way in I saw a sight that gave me pause. I’m pretty tolerant of the gross safety issues you see on a daily basis, but this one was a doozy. A flatbed of blok (cement blocks; the normal 20cm wide size) was stacked pretty high – higher than the cab of the flatbed. It wasn’t tied down in any way that I could see, but this is pretty much SOP. That which gave me pause was the two workers seated on top of the stack of block, riding down the highway at a good 80km/h. They must have had a GREAT view, but a quick stop would have put them flying about 10km down the highway. Continue reading OSHA beware

brrrrr….

it must be snowing up in the US because it is FREEZING down here.  A/C is off, fleece is on and blankets are piled high.   Who ever heard of a norte in April?  What a wacky winter this has been!

of lunches and the lack of a louse

The other day, Jamie, the girls and I spent a good part of the day making sure various employees of various businesses in Playa del Carmen were actually taking their lunch break. I had hoped to get the part we ordered for the van eons ago, pick up our re-filled fire extinguishers (from two different places), and see a man about an alternator. Rest assured, the Ford guy, the fire extinguisher guy (at both places), the alternator guy were all taking their alloted lunches and each and every one of them had *just* left for lunch each time we showed up. Really, we SHOULD know better. Continue reading of lunches and the lack of a louse
