Tioga George, KIDNAPPED

April 22nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

There are certain blogs I started following when we started fulltiming. My mom and Dad’s and Tioga George’s. I always wanted to travel the way both of them did; seeking out the history and boondocking in out of the way spots. Jamie was always very concerned about boondocking, but eventually allowed specific spots. George is the king of boondocking and updates his blog several times a day so you can never get bored. George is in our neck of the woods now and yesterday spent the afternoon at our palapa after which we headed to Jonna and Mimi’s for dinner. I think George might have been a little overwhelmed with all the kids and commotion (we generally have the 2 neighbor boys over during the day) but he and Sissy really connected. She came down at one point and asked me, “what’s his name again?” and when I told her she said, “I really like him”.

I’m pretty sure we’re going to take care of George’s bird while he goes to Israel and Jesse is VERY excited at the prospect. After being denied cats and dogs and my unwillingness to cage and animal for my children’s amusement, the kids have been dying for an animal. They’ve already renamed Boid, “cheepee” but only 3 agree on that name and one has a different name picked out, so poor Boid will probably be VERY happy to see George upon his return.

We had a freak norte the other week; Jamie was in heaven but I can’t help but worry what that bodes for this summer. Living on the Caribbean always plants hurricane concerns in your head and in the summer they bear fruit. The flowers, on the other hand, are really amazing this time of year. I don’t know why we didn’t notice last year but even the carretera median strips are bursting with color. Little plants I didn’t even know produced color are dripping with flowers. We haven’t had any rain for months, other than a short spurt of drizzle with the last norte, like so much of Mexico, I just don’t understand why they chose NOW to bloom.

There was a blogger meetup at Isla Mujeres this past weekend, but since I’m really reining in the family finances I just couldn’t justify the trip. Jonna and Mimi went, however, and reported a FABULOUS time. The waters there are as amazing as I’ve ever seen and the color changes are stunning. We will have to head over to Isla one of these months just to gaze upon the colors of the sea.

We are getting closer to getting a Merida home; I’ve been seriously bummed at the chilangos buying up centro property and the continual rising of centro ruin prices, but finally contacted Jonna and Mimi’s real estate guy and hopefully he can find something for us. I’ve been studying rather steadily and am astounded at how much lab test and anatomy is essential. I wish we were much more forward looking and thinking people and could gamble easier. I keep wondering if we should gamble on property only to flip it (assuming it rises) but I hate the concreting of Mexico and I just can’t justify participating in another concreting of the Riviera Maya.

Today we’re taking George to a cenote and are hoping the warm weather holds long enough to enjoy the cold water there. When we last took my sister and family it was too cold to enjoy. Irregardless of the temperature, I’m sure the kids will get more than their money’s worth.

Oh, I deleted the FM3 post because it was acting all funny and I couldn’t take the time to figure out what was wrong. Made me kinda paranoid.

Too cool that you have kidnapped George! I follow him too, and he is fantastic.

Loved the pics on his site of you all.

I had a teacher who always used to say “irregardless”, then she would stop and tell us that it wasn’t a word, then she would unconsciously use it again. What you mean is regardless.
