Happy Solstice

June 21st, 2008 · 2 Comments

For the northern half of the hemisphere it is Summer Solstice and the southern half is now half-way through winter. When we lived in a stick house Solstice was celebrated rather than typical holidays and this would have been a great day to head to Chichen Itza to watch the serpent climb the stairs. Unfortunately, the kids aren’t so much into Solstice anymore.

I have been thinking that the boys are getting closer to becoming interested in diving as on our daily snorkel trips out in PaaMul’s bay, they are always looking for the deep spots to dive down to. My favorite areas are the south end and I’m just dying for a waterproof camera. When I talked to them about it, we can get a most excellent deal from our neighbor (who owns a dive shop in Puerto Adventuras) they just didn’t seem all that interested. They like to go deep they say, but not THAT deep.

Very little of note has been happening; the boys are being paid in Runescape membership to care for the girls while Jamie and I walk, and there has apparently been high drama in the world of Runescape. Life is slow and the days seem to meld one to the other and we’ll all just moving along with the slow, languid heat of summer.

Dad and I can understand how your days are going. Today, for the first time I can remember, we simply stayed in ALL DAY.

The temps are 117 during the day. Tonight (about 9:00 pm) I ventured out to take the garbage to the dumpster (thinking the night air would surely be a little cool).

A hot wind kept the night temperatures pretty high. I was glad to return to the Air conditioned motor home.

Yesterday the air conditioners went “out” for awhile, but I am glad to report that Dad got them running again. It is unbelievable how hot it gets here! So I can appreciate how the heat gets all of you, too!

    Good luck!

    Happy Solstice!

I think the boys would enjoy scuba once they got started with it. It is like floating in space. Simply awesome.

It is hot here as well. We went to South Padre all of last week, and enjoyed gorgeous clear water, and beaches full of fluffy, soft sand. We had a lovely breeze though, and it was hard to leave.

Are you guys heading North for the hurricane season?
