and ANOTHER thing!

I’ve posted TWICE now in my head and I can’t believe there isn’t an application available yet to move posts from my head to the blog without my intervention.   Sheesh! So, to show how INCREDIBLY and terribly and simply AWFULLY lazy I can be, I am going to post my Facebook updates from the last month.  Hey, at least it is something!

May 18  OMFG I am DEAD this am. I just can’t get started. No exercise, begged off taking hte kids to Judo, no work – I’m a mess. And excema everywhere and I can’t figure out why. Ugh. At least the sea is calm. Maybe I’ll stew in the waters.

The first rain of the season! Day after day of dry and dust and finally RAIN! The amazing freshness of the smell, the drop from 112F/44C to needing a jacket to stay warm, the renewal, the loss of internet (satellite :) ), the sound of the drops and tiny waterfalls cascading all over the grass roof, the puddles of toxicity collecting in the road, the deep grounding it produces.

We each, individually, gather together to watch the clouds gather, to watch the osprey and large birds riding the thermals and being chased by the downfall, to smell the first smell of rain, to hear the first patter and to exclaim and wonder as the smell gets stronger and the drops begin to fall. We cannot help but wander in the great drops, feel the cool wetness and drink deep of the earthy smell.

May 19  Happy birthday Malcolm X. You would have been 84.   Just purchased JudoGi for each boy, is having them delivered to someone she’s never met (or talked to) so they can mule them down here. Thank the (diety of your choice) for mules!

looking for a gymnastics teacher for Sissy (9yo) I stumbled upon the motherlode…apparently one of the 5 best gyms in the WORLD.

May 20  tomorrow starts the Travesía Sagrada. Every year I say I’m going to go, but I think we’ll try to make it this year.

May 21 off to dance with INM (la Migra)

May 22 was up at 4:20am, left home (with family) at 5:25, at Xcaret by 5:45 and got the free bracelet! Missed the launching of the canoas, though. So far, kids have enjoyed rolling down the grassy hill the best. But we haven’t been in the water either.  (later) Mexico lindo y querido…O.M.G. what an amazing show tonight at Xcaret! We’ve been up since 4:30am but had to TEAR ourselves away from the evening show. A LONG LONG day but it was the BEST!

May 23 I am trying to figure out how to begin repairing her camera with the “dreaded” E18 error…and wondering if a D40 might be in my future…

May 26 I am worried about Kilo (puppy) who is spending the night at the vet – unable to eat or drink.

May 27 Jamie and I went to see Kilo this am and boy oh boy, Dr. Paco just RADIATES confidence. Incredible bedside manner. Late last night he tried checking Kilo to see what was going on but Kilo was in too much pain and wouldn’t let him mess with his belly, so very early this am (before the office opened) he took X-rays of Kilo but found nothing so arranged for an ultrasound. He can feel something wrong in his belly though.   If U/S tech hasn’t been done by 1230, Dr. Paco will operate on Kilo and find the obstruction and fix it. We’re very hopeful and confident with Dr. Paco. Kilo is in excellent hands. So now we wait.

Dr. Paco found a piece of plastic in Kilo’s intestines, he is in recovery now and they figure 2 days before leaving vets.

May 28 a neighbor is headed back to the US and brought some 1/2-finished cereal over. Ellen just poured some into her bowl and I asked her if she wanted cow or soy milk. She said, “leche de vaca, but first I have to get these THINGS out of my bowl.” Jamie looks over at her bowl and says, “those are Lucky Charms!” and I say, “they’re magically delicious!”. She shook her head and continued to remove the “things”. :)

I am feeling guilty that I’m not visiting Kilo this am, but I have GOT to get some work done. Also feeling weird about mixing persons (1st vs 3rd) in the same sentence. Sheesh.

May 29 I am containing Kilo to the trailer until we can get the palapa clean enough for him to roam. He’s supposed to be kept quiet for the next 4 days. Yikes. Also looking forward to visiting with INM this morning. They’re always so much fun.

I am happy my husbandito is happy with the new washer. But sad that Kilo is back at the vets. But hoping it will be just gas for Kilo. And content with the merry-go-round that INM puts us on because I just can’t give it the energy to be frustrated. And worried that I’ve done almost no work this week due to sick Kilo and thinking I’m going to miss the party in Akumal this weekend with Kilo back at the vet’s.

May 30 I am still not re-united with our doggie. Talked with Dr. Paco this am while at kids’ Judo class – is it possible I misunderstood him? I’m hoping I understood that he will call us when we can pick him up (as the office is closed today and I thought he was on his way to Jose Maria Morelos this weekend.

Kilo is HOME (again)!

June 1 I am so incredibly proud of my two boys. Going to Judo and Ju Jitsu classes 5 days a week, getting up at the ass-crack of 9am, challenging themselves to a new language and taking instruction in a language they’re not yet fluent in and having their teammates cheer them on in practice. They are opening themselves to new experiences, stepping out of their comfort zones and challenging themselves.

I am going to drag the kids to the pool in 1/2 hour whether they want to or not. Poor, poor, abused children.

I started a picture a day this day – Today is ‘allowance day‘. The kids get 1 peso/year of age paid each Monday. If they forget to ask on Monday it is almost always forfeited.

June 2 Pike is taking dictation from William Wordsworth’s “Daffodils” today. Such a nice change after the bleak and grey poems we’ve been reading lately.  Cool day today – never got over 100F.  Today’s picture is Bananas from our backyard.  These all seemed to ripen in a couple days time. It took a long time to go from green to beginning yellow, but once the yellow started, it was instant! Jamie has already made 2 batches of banana bread with these and this is what we still have left. Once they’re more black they’ll be super sweet. I leave them at the front of the palapa so Don Beto can pop by and steal a couple (should he desire to do so).

June 3 Tamales from the Chedraui tamale lady. When the kids have Judo late on Tues and Thurs, I have become accustomed to a tamal or two or three. Sissy and Ellen like the “torteada” (?) (in banana leaves) , I like the pollo verde and sometimes the pollo mole. They are really so very very good that she is now added to the monthly budget.

June 4 I picked up a couple mules from the airport today who brought us JudoGi for both boys. Pike has a broken toe, so he didn’t go today, but look at my gorgeous boy here, all decked out. and, um, yes, we have a non-functioning washer in the sala.

June 5 If i update twitter/FB once more without updating my blog, the blog gods are going to do something drastic. And it won’t be good.  (SEE!!!  I WAS POSTING!!!)

beach towels under the shade of a coconut palm. I’ve been obligating the kids to swim (sea or pool or both) days they don’t have Judo. Poor, abused children.

June 6  We have had summer heat beginning in March but with the recent rain the Flamboyan trees went into full flower Spring mode.

Happy birthday Dad!

June 7 I am slacking on the computer, not working and waiting for Jamie to get his cawfee so we can take our morning constitutional (well, more for the widdo keewo than us).

I am so grateful to husbandito for fixing milanesa, roasted potato wedges, broccoli and a killer salad for us to come home to after I took the kids to the beach/pool for the afternoon.

AGAIN, dragged the kids to the beach. I can’t believe how much they DON’T want to go and then DON’T want to leave. Sissy sporting a boogie board. We spent the heat of the day in the palapa and hit the beach with overcast skies.

June 8 this album needs some blue and turquoise. I see this each and every day, and each and every day I am so thankful that I do.

June 9 I finally figured out how to avoid injury. I had a tight left calf this am and stretched as well as I could and then after something over 2.5 miles of run decided to walk. I HATE stopping (I’m SO no pain=no gain) but after tearing my calf muscle at least 4 times (I lost count) since January, I think I finally learned my lesson. I even did a good 15 minutes of stretching when I got home and got happy jelly legs.

I just got back from watching a tortuga dig her nest. Let’s hope she uses it.

This is, I think, only the 3rd nido (nest) we’ve had so far this year. Too early to say if the tortugas will predict the hurricane season yet. The dark “log” like looking thing is the tortuga – she is building her nest but hasn’t yet laid her eggs. Sissy and I came across her while walking on the beach. We QUICKLY scooped up Kilo and sat and watched, then alerted the neighbors (to come, be quiet and no lights or flash).

June 10 I seem to be inching off my (weightloss) plateau. I also ran my longest run this am – 3.5 miles. Well, according to Google Earth. Course, it was like 100F and I almost died the last .25 mile.

Tracks either going to or from the newest nest on the beach.
June 11 sissy plays Castaway at “dog” beach. This is where we take Kilo to play – no chance of disturbing a turtle nest and he will actually GO IN THE WATER here!
June 12 Jamie’s tat under the Caribbean. The Missing Link will always be a part of him (though that’s not exactly why he got the tat). :)
June 13 Jungle view from Janten. When we first made it down to the jungles of Mexico I kept looking for what everyone referred to as the jungle. It isn’t a Tarzan jungle; that’s for Central America. Rather, ours is much lower, and after Emily and Wilma (2005) the trees took a serious hit.
June 14 late sunday afternoon walking to janten. the beach to the north of ours is undeveloped and wild. Counted 8 turtle nests in a small area there. We go here frequently – it is only a 20 minute walk or so – and the sand is like flour.
I know that was really lame, but I promise I’ll do better tomorrow.  yeah, if nothing other than pictures, I’ll be posting every day in June.

6 comments to and ANOTHER thing!

  • Did you really say you got a NEW washer?????????

  • Love your pic a day. Last Wedneday I decided to just start posting pics with a short blurb to The Blawg. It just seems to suit me better these days. It was either that or take it down completely. Have also considered a redirect to my photo blog.

A pic a day might get me motivated to use my camera more this summer. I have been so lazy with it!!

  • Oh, and I enjoy Facebook more than my blog these days. It is just so much easier and a bit more intimate of a setting.

  • Aunt Kathy

” I’ll be posting every day in June.” And where are you posting???????

  • If you want to see Kitty you have to check her facebook page.

  • Contessa

I feel cheated…..not all of us are using facebook. I miss my weekly fixes of one day in the life! Please keep us posted.
