Great post. And yes, you were and ARE an athlete. Most people can't run around the block, let alone finish a 1/2 Ironman. You and Bill...sheesh. He did an Ironman qualifying race a few times in the hill country. Maniac. My knees would never hold out for one for sure.

Can't wait to hear about the Merida renov. Too fun!

Love the boys new cuts.

I am also grateful for your post as I have really enjoyed reading your life's adventures since Ellen was about 2 or 3 years old. Love the write-up on your boys, you can tell it comes from the heart. Love their haircuts too!

If your reason for running is to exercise for health purposes, perhaps your body is telling you it's time in your life to switch to walking. And we always need to listen to our body. As I'm sure you are aware, walking has many health benefits.

These days here in El Centro we are normally out walking by 6am. We typically walk out 30 minutes and back. This amounts to 3 miles. Since it's normally 80 degrees at 6 in the Summer here I certainly am perspiring quite a bit every day. Some days (like yesterday) I push it and walk fast enough to get into an even higher aerobic level.

OTOH, you might be trying to convince yourself you are not getting older. Sorry about that, Kit, if you are lucky you get older for a long, long time - and we start getting older very early :o) It sure beats the alternative....
The good news is it appears the genes you inherited are in your favor if your treat your body well....

What's the latest tag line I've heard? Something like, "Life's a negotiation, negotiate well."

love & peace, papa
(who is very grateful his Achilles tendon finally healed and he can walk vigorously every day)

I'm with Katherine on the Facebook thing, I am still refusing to sign up because I really don't need another internet time sink. Oh, and I'm with her on wanting to see pics of the boys too.

You guys had BETTER come over here on your way north and south. It sounds great that you will be over here to work on the house too. We've got people coming and going this winter but you are welcome here whenever we have the guest room free. You can bet that it is all clear in August :) Heh! NO ONE from the north will visit us then.

The mossies are worse than in the dry season, that's for sure. We've moved inside because of them and aren't on the terrace as much. I'm back to everything tasting like DEET because it always ends up in my mouth. I love the rains though, really spectacular and they cool it off.

So where, pray tell, are photos of two boys with their ears lowered? I'm dying to see the hair cuts, and hope I don't have to wait until August to see how handsome/grown-up they look.

love to all,
