I have dragged the trailer twice through this route and once we got on MX57 it became the Most Boring Drive to date. It was a lovely road – 4 lanes and good surface, but very very very boring. We made amazing time and were in Saltillo in about 2 hours. For some (bad) reason I decided to take the libre into town and do some grocery shopping. Kilo loved the stop and it was the first time he’s been off leash and able to run wherever he wanted since we left Merida. I have noticed, since leaving QRoo, how odd it is that foreign plates (foreign to QRoo, not necessarily Mexico) are so normal in Playa but so odd pretty much everywhere in the interior.
The stop in Saltillo took up about 2 hours and about 1.5 hours of that was taken up with Getting The Hell out of town. It is always such a lovely surprise when I can find my way and end up just where I wanted to go.
Again, the road from Saltillo northwards, was intimately familiar to me, though, I suspect, not even close to how familiar it is to the truck drivers (though the libre north of Saltillo was shockingly empty). We didn’t get to Cuatrocienegas until late afternoon and Pike picked the first hotel to try and when they said “yes” to all our requests AND is a luxury hotel, we decided to stay and forgo looking for cheaper accomodations. It was a great decision as we’re loving the comfort and luxury of a real hotel. I arranged for a guide (they are highly recommended for the reserve) and we wandered about the town; very happy with the strong sun and desert heat. I have been falling asleep all during this last paragraph and have no idea if it makes any sense at all. (closing eyes and htting POST)

Goodnight my love.
