Well, not much in the way of updating this damn thing. Nothing of facebook either (except what daily mile posts there for me).
We recently had a great visit from our best friends from our old stomping grounds and while I personally was holed up in the trailer almost the whole time (I’d just started with a new client and could not take any time off) the kids had a blast hitting Tulum, Bead Beach, bonfire at Janten and various dinner extravagances. We are going to miss them terribly.
Turtle season is eerily jumping. I’ve never seen so many nests on both Janten and our own beach. Makes me wonder why and who is going to get hammered this year. If anecdotal evidence holds, we won’t be.
I managed to rip my calf muscle again (days after finally breaking into double digits (10 mile)) and am slowly rehabbing. I really hate this injury but not enough, apparently, to stop running. I’ve been swimming midday and now that the seas have calmed the swimming is pretty easy and I’m starting to look forward to it. I might just add it to the daily mix (yoga and/or run) as it breaks the day up so nicely. I’m sitting at the computer almost all the other hours so I really need to get my body moving somehow.
Gems from the ER:
Transgendered guy (male to female) comes in for check of stitches on breast surgery. Doc is completely flummoxed during the physical exam as they all usually have their pet sayings and his is “Alert, pleasant, oriented, cooperative male/female” and the poor (old) guy hems and haws for quite a while before stammering out “patient” (in place of male or female). It was 2am when he dictated, so i can’t blame the old guy.
Patient being admitted to the hospital, “The patient’s symptoms apparently got worse after taking heroin.” Who woudda thunk?
Then you get the guys who think they can show a wall or staircase or (recently) a computer tower who is boss by punching it. I had a doc laughing so hard trying to dictate a report of a guy punching out his computer he had to leave and compose himself.
We’re trying to figure out our US plans this year. It is looking like driving will be out as it will make it all but impossible for me to work, so we’re thinking of flying to Wisconsin for Maca’s birthday and as long as we’re there, we have to visit my sister in MN and hell, if we’re in the same country as my other sister we should visit her too, but adding in California will add about $2500-4000USD to the trip so that’s a bit up in the air. I did, however, find a sweet little marathon in WI if we go and once I”m able to run again (did I mention that not only did I tear the muscle again but a few days ago I broke a toe?) I’ll start training for it (and ignore the fact that I seem to have a recurrent injury that I can’t figure out how to stop). I’m thinking also about the Xel-Ha Triathlon in November. But first there is the 21K in Campeche on Sept 5th.
That’s going to have to do, Aunt Kathy. I”ll try to be better.

If Maca’s birthday’s around Cody’s graduation we’ll be in Minneapolis/MI Lake House. (That we just left. We are 22 miles from Toledo, OH tonight.)
love, papa
PS> No comment on “calf muscle.” I’ve said my piece before….

Maca’s bday is late October. Kit, we are hoping to see you in early November!
Thank you for posting, Kitty. I have been worried about you and your calf. Do you think that maybe your body is telling you to switch sports?
I was hoping to hear about the kids and their education experiences. Maybe they could take turns posting for you.
Love you. Take care of yourself.
JamKat – I live in Minnesota, USA and am trying to find a 1/2 marathon or maybe even a full marathon someplace in the Yukatan Peninsula eitehr during the week of Feb 20 -25th 2011 or the two or three days prior or following. Any suggestions?
