As my sister, brother and I stood around a rapidly emptying Oakland airport last night, waiting for my mom and dad to arrive from snowy MSP, I had the realization that this was clearly the definition of having “made it”, of clear and absolute success in this world. That their children and their children’s children would rather spend time together in a dirty baggage area of an airport late at night simply waiting for the chance to pick up their luggage, garnish a hug and an embrace before heading home than stay at home, warm, dry and doing whatever else people do when they’re not with family.
If this is my life when my kids are grown, I’ll know that I will have achieved everything important in life and I honestly will not need for anything more. Well, that and Jamie by my side (cause we’ll be arriving at that damn airport TOGETHER, natch!).
Papa and Tata are in the haus and life is good.

We miss them – but are so glad to get back to the “normality” of life. And we were afraid they might freeze if they stayed any longer. I’m so glad they were able to get back to spend some time with you all before you take off for home.
Give them a hug from all of us! Zane has been very sad since they left. I asked him tonight what his favorite thing is about having them around. They are fun he said.
Kathy,
I’ve been following your blog for a few years. It’s always fun to read (but you should post more often!). I have a few questions about Ten Jan (or is it Jan Ten) beach. I am here at my house in Chan Chemuyil (just south of Akumal). Please email if you get a minute.
Thanks.
Kathy……I have made the switch from blogspot/blogger to wordpress, so if you want to, you can change my bog address to the website address above.
For the time being, my blogspot address will take you to my last post which includes a link to the new site. I plan to continually update THAT post so that my old blog remains “alive”. Just wish I could get all 6339 posts imported to wordpress blog, but that becomes a costly addition at this point in time……sooooo many bytes of pictures and posts, which wp charges for after 3GB.
Right now, I am just learning/reading/experimenting with the new wp site……fun, but frustrating, also.
Stay in touch…..it has been a long time, hasn’t it? I will try to do better!!
John
(I STILL have the lovely Mexican wine glasses you sent to me….they are on display where I see them daily)
