You are SO lucky! I have been surfing the internet All Day Long but have been rendered impotent from posting anything until this moment. However, benevolent being that I am, concerned for your lack of (albeit boring) reading material, once un-imprisoned, I RUSH to update this forgotten wasteland. Thank you, thank you (catches the well aimed roses).
We had a MAAVELOUS time on Cozumel, dahhhhlings. We loved the B&B; it wasn’t 5 star and anyone used to resort areas would probably not be happy with the lack of wireless, cat fight in the pre-dawn hours that sounded like it was coming from our patio, the drain on hot water when six bodies shower at once and the lack of blankets (I am still wondering about that one; maybe to keep the A/C use down?) but to us it was heaven. We had a fridge that was Continue reading Lazing about with nothing to show for it but this lousy post

Ha! Not a chance! But I was heartened to find that while I still need to perform a fine tooth combing of November and December, we spent only around $33K last year. Of course, that doesn’t include palapa costs. A quick perusal of the palapa spreadsheet shows we spent about $8200 on the palapa . . . → Read More: The year in review

i swear, the hardest part of writing an update is the start. making my way to the site and putting words to keyboard. I’ve been sick. A freaking-GAIN and I’m pretty freaking sick of being freaking sick. i picked up some stomach thing that laid me low and had me clicking over the options in my head; amoebas? typhoid? other bacteria? something insidious that I’m unaware of? and nothing really materialized. finally, when the cramping had subsided enough i dosed up on garlic and that seemed to have beat it back a bit. the boys caught the first cold we’ve had in over 3 years and jamie and i have been beating it back with raw garlic. everytime i feel a bit sniffly or scratchy throat i pop a clove and i’m good to go. the boys were down for a couple days but honestly, i’m not sure if it was pure sickness or the excuse to play Runescape hour after glorious hour. I had hoped Jamie would head over and confront the folks in the black pickup but he just sat on the curb watching them. I finally figured out an excuse to head over after the truck flashed its headlights at a security car. We walked over and I had Jamie ask if they needed any help. They turned out to be a very embarrassed couple who left Very Soon Afterwards. We were much relieved that we weren’t going to be robbed again and decided to move the trailer to the more protected spot I’d scoped out earlier. It was pitch black and occasionally raining but we snugged the trailer in and settled down with the generator for the night. About 3:45 Jamie, myself and Pike sat up straight in bed WIDE AWAKE. We were getting hammered with rain and really good gusts of wind. The gusting and heavy rain would peter out, we’d check the ground for flooding, decide to keep the generator running (the fans providing only only escape from the heat dependent on the generator) and try to doze. This pattern repeated until well after dawn when the rain generator ran out of gas. Continue reading The day after the day after (cont.)

But wait; there’s more! A window! Insulation on the newly installed door and window. Air conditioning and paint!
Our neighbor from Durango brought his mother from DF down a few days ago but I haven’t seen his wife for ages. His palapa is coming along so nicely and he’s got almost all his . . . → Read More: 10 squid, a spotted eel and SEWAGE!

I’ve been participating on a weather forum that throws more letters around than you’d ever believe. Did you know that the Gulf of Mexico is known as GOM or GOMEX in weather circles? After a few months there TWO no longer means “one more than one” but Tropical Weather Outlook. We’ve been watching . . . → Read More: Oh shit, here we go…

Just the way we like it. Unfortunately, Japan is staring down Man-Yi and hoping it decreases from the anticiapted Cat 4 to a Cat 2 by landfall. Wind shear is supposed to knock it down and wind shear has kept the North Atlantic (funny to think that we’re in the NORTH Atlantic, just as it is funny to think of California in the EAST Pacific, but that is what happens when you switch from a US-view to a world view, I suppose) calm this past month. It’s been a wild week. I scratched my cornea, had a fight with a shop steward, paid off contractors and celebrated a birthday. So now you’re all caught up. Today is Jesse’s birthday and I will update; the palapa is finished, but what a rough road it was. Here is my project for the day; I’ll update this post throughout the day with something substantial.

Generally, when doing construction, or a project, or pretty much anything you do with a contractor, you pay 50% up front and 50% at the end of the project. It is a standard Continue reading Palapa Saga, Part One

I wrote a post the other day and since Hughes is having some weird DNS problems (or maybe my router simply hiccuped, as it sometimes does) I lost it. And even though Word Press has a feature that saves your post for you, as you’re typing, I’m not exactly sure what happened to mine. Maybe I titled it too late so it didn’t save it as anything. Who knows. Once I loose a post I’m LOATHE to re-create it so I simply didn’t. And now you’ll never know the true extent of my brilliance. Your loss. Ok, now WP just saved what I’ve posted thus far but I have no idea WHERE. EEEP! My brilliance still might be out there somewhere. Continue reading Grounded

I hope your day yesterday was much more interesting than mine. After spending the night tossing and turning, I managed to get up at 7:15 and head over to the pool, where I waited for the owner to pass by on his way to work. I had hoped to talk to him about the . . . → Read More: A thrill a day!
